The best white alder for street, bioswales and drier plantings in the west. Native of river systems from the Willamette valley and the interior desert, south to Baja. To 35 or more feet with simple rhomboid, alder-y leaves, its most outstanding features, the silvery bark and showy golden catkins beginning as soon as the leaves drop in late autumn.
