Myrtus communis 'Ann McDonald'
Long having had an interest in this classic broadleaf evergreen, I was delighted to see a large shrub of 8 ft in the wonderful and historic garden of Ann McDonald in Portland, this having been planted some 30 years ago or more and selected for its 1ā leaves and large, 1/3ā blue-black fruit produced from an exceedingly heavy flowering. Full sun to dappled shade in lean soil with little summer water. This garden provenance has produced a plant able to withstand between 10 to 12°F ā bottom of USDA zone 8 -- with little appreciable damage.
