Eryngium eburneum
One of our collections from high elevations in northwestern Argentina, the silky green, evergreen rosettes, to 18 inches to two feet edged in long narrow spines looking almost like feathers, make this a fabulous garden plant. The tall, 6 ft or more, sputnik flowers of silver, green and white add great drama - especially when backlit. Looking for all the world like a xeric plant, these tolerate periodic drought but perform best with regular summer irrigation where dry. Happy with heavy soils and even temporary inundation. Frost hardy in USDA zone 7b.
