Aesculus wangii
This very rare and beautiful buckeye collected by our own Dan Hinkley in Northern Vietnam is arguably the most attractive of the genus. To 30 ft or more eventually (records show much taller in time) with silvery bark and palmate leaves emerging burgundy and red, aging to deep green. White flowers late spring to early summer. This threatened tree in the wild is now available as the first trees brought into cultivation in North America are beginning to fruit. A delicate addition to the garden, casting only light shade, loves a bit of summer water and benefits from lush underplantings. Excellent for some tropical effect. Has proven hardy in zone 7.
